ACCOMPANYING PROGRAMM
Accompanying program in terms of conference METAL 2012 will be held on May 24th 2012 afternoon. It is possible to register it in the conference registration form at www.metal2012.com. The programm is as follows:
Spilberk Castle

For over seven centuries, Špilberk Castle has dominated the skyline of Brno, a reminder of the safety and protection it provided. However, there have been times in the history of Brno when the fortress inspired fear, and represented oppression for the citizens of the city.
Over the course of the centuries, the importance of Špilberk and the part it has played have changed considerably. From a major royal castle and the seat of the Moravian margraves, it gradually turned into a huge baroque fortress, the heaviest prison in the Austro-Hungarian empire (the infamous „dungeon of the nations“), and then a barracks. Today, Špilberk houses the Brno City Museum, and is one of the most significant cultural centres in Brno. It was certified as a national heritage monument in 1962.
Pavilon Anthropos
The Anthropos Pavilion houses an extensive exhibition on the origin and evolution of humans and the infancy of their culture. For an exhibition of this type, it is one of the largest and most modern in Europe.

Brno Observatory and Planetarium
-
Would you like to live the story of the Solar System?

- Look at the star sky through a big astronomical telescope?
- Find the answers to perpetual questions?
- Touch a real meteorite?
- Spend unusual time under the artificial sky of the planetarium?
- Weight yourself on the Moon?
- Play with interesting scientific experiments?
- Enjoy a great view of Brno?
- Are you longing to get to the core of it all?
Then you must come to to the Brno Observatory and Planetarium. It is a centre for popularisation of various sciences, especially in the field of inanimate nature. First of all, it is of course astronomy, but they do not avoid geology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, geography and others… And they do it all in the form which is understandable for the lay audience, entertaining and if it is at least a little possible also interactive. It is not a scientific workplace, but you can meet science at every turn in the centre. It is because they are also engaged in promotion of Brno universities and big scientific projects carried out in the area of the city of Brno. University teaching takes place directly in their premises.
Cruise ship on the Brno dam and visit to the castle Veveri
Veveri Castle - one of the largest and, unfortunately, recently also being the most deprived castle areas in our country, had been risen gradually during nearly 800 years history. Originally a small hunting manor apparently, or just a manor-house of the Moravian margraves, is first mentioned in the sources in the year 1213. Veveri like a real stone castle had been risen probably only the half of the 13th century ago. Among others, as a place of royal supervision over settlement of the territory up to the river Svratka.
